Hammond and Boylston

This image shows the intersection of Hammond Street and Boylston Street (Route 9) with proposed changes. You may click on the image to view a larger version.

The two-way sidepath south of Boylston Street is shown in yellow, and the red strip is the sidewalk. It is unclear to me how bicyclists are supposed to cross Boylston Street. The yellow in the median suggests that the crossing is supposed to occupy the last 50 feet or more before the crosswalk on each side of the intersection. That treatment would be very strange, placing bicyclists in conflict with motorists scanning to prepare turns.

The same intersection is also shown in the plans. A cross-section south of Boylston Street is shown here.
